About NUIG

NUI Galway, established in 1845, is one of Ireland’s most prestigious multi-disciplinary universities, with a distinguished record in teaching and research. Ideally located in the cultural heart of Ireland and ‘university city’ of Galway, the University offers a broad range of internationally recognised degree programmes in a welcoming academic community. NUI Galway is investing €0.75 million per week in campus development programme to provide the very best learning environment for students. NUI Galway continues to outperform other universities in terms of graduate employment. We were the only Irish university to increase our position in both the QS World University Ranking and the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings in 2014. NUI Galway provides the highest standards of student experience: as well as having received the most National Teaching Excellence Awards of all HEIs, NUI Galway has the best record for student retention in the Irish university system. We are leading the way in student volunteering and civic engagement. More than 1,000 students gave 30,000 hours of voluntary activity in the last year. NUI Galway is truly a global university – we have the highest number of international students of any university in Ireland. We have a total of 3,000 International students from 115 countries, which accounts for 18% of the overall student population. NUI Galway’s 105-hectare campus has a unique riverside location and is minutes from the heart of Galway City. Galway has a reputation as a safe, young and student-friendly city. Students make up 20% of the population and they bring youth, energy and excitement to the city. Galway really is ‘The University City’. The campus is in the heart of the city centre, with all amenities on your doorstep or within walking distance. Students enjoy a unique experience living and studying in Galway: scenery, beaches, and the natural beauty of Connemara are all on our doorstep.
